SOAP brand Lifebuoy today celebrated Global Handwashing Day with a pledge of 21/5 (21 days, five times a day) of handwashing with liquid hand wash.
The pledge for healthy hygiene was made concurrently in 10 schools, reaching more than 10,000 primary school students with the aim of teaching the importance of handwashing with liquid hand wash.
To mark the day, Lifebuoy announced the winners of the Doktor Muda programme at the SK Bukit Pantai. Representatives from the Health and Education Ministries were also there to officiate the programme.
As part of the programme, day cards were distributed among the students so that they can keep track of their handwashing habits (five times a day for a period of 21 days). After the 21 days, the school with the highest record of handwashing will receive a month’s supply of Lifebuoy products.
“Teaching children about good hygiene at the school level allows them to easily absorb these habits and continue to practise the same habits at home and through their adult life,” said Abdul Jabar Ahmad, director of health education at the Health Ministry.
The Doktor Muda programme top three winners are: SK Telok Menegon, Klang; SK Alam Megah 2, Shah Alam; and SK Taman Semarak, Nilai.
The Doktor Muda programme is aimed at empowering students to promote and influence good hygiene behaviour among their peers and even family members.
